CFS/ME Psychotherapists London
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) otherwise known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a condition that clients can bring to psychotherapy.
Do you or your partner have M.E.?
M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) was recognised in 1969 by the World Health Organisation as a disease which impairs the function of the Central Nervous System. Despite the disabling effects of this condition, some of which are similar to M.S., it is little known and barely understood by a significant proportion of the medical profession.
If you or your significant other have been diagnosed with M.E., you may welcome the opportunity to talk in therapy about how the symptoms affect your daily life, your relationship and your ability to work, about the frustrating wait many experience in getting a diagnosis and the fact there are few supportive treatment programmes available which are tailored to the individual.
Our therapist has personal experience of learning to live with M.E. and has worked therapeutically with other sufferers. She has the approval of Professor Leslie Findley, consultant neurologist and founder of the National M.E. Centre, to work with M.E. patients who need to manage their energy and rebalance their lives in order to function within the limitations of the disease. Pacing is the key, but learning to prioritise and conserve one’s energy for the important things in life need not undermine your sense of who you are.
You may benefit from being counselled as a couple; regular counselling via Skype is a possibility for those who find travelling difficult, after an initial face-to-face session.
